Part of the essential store of bead craft supplies, Cords and threads are the backbone of many necklace and bracelet styles. There are three basic types: cord(or thong), thread, and flexible wire, also known as tiger tail. Waxed cotton cord, or leather thong, is good for simple pendant designs, also works well for large hole beads to make simple handcraft style necklaces. This is a good way to get started in jewellery making , often seen at craft shows and markets. We have a good range of selected colours in waxed cotton as well as some unusual colours in leather, metal finished such as gold, silver and copper colours. We also have a large colour selection of synthetic threads, strong and breakage resistant, and will not stretch, unkike traditional materials. These are useful for threading up beaded necklace ropes, for repairing old jewellery such as pearls, where it can be used for making knotted styles. A modern alternative is tiger tail wire, which is a soft flexible multi stranded wire, nylon coated. This material, available in several colours, is used for making floater or illusion style necklaces, where beads are fixed in stations around the wire using crimps, see ou range of beaded jewellery making kits for examples of our craft kits in this style.
