Design -An Overview

Over the years of designing beaded jewellery, we have discovered a few useful rules in approaching design. Of course there are no hard and fast rules out there, but we feel that you may find the following helpful.

In this series of articles, we would like to give you the benefit of our experience in commercial design, to help you to select beads which work well together to make beautiful jewellery. Part of the battle is learning how to use colours which reinforce and complement each other. For more on that, please see the related article, Colour Combinations in Beads. But there are also some other good rules, and if you like, insider tips, on other aspect of bead jewellery design.

For earrings it's largely about shape. See the related article for some great ideas on this.

Bracelets pose a particular challenge due to not having  an obvious centre or focal point to the design. See related article for how to achieve striking effects wjth bracelets.

Necklaces come in so many types that you might think it would be hard to make any universal rules about wht works, however, there are a few things whiich can be thought about. For a start, it can often be about colours and how to alternate and combine them, but there is shape to be thought about too. for more, please see the article.
